When it comes to choosing an AI tool to help support your child’s learning, the market is full of options. Here you will find answers to the questions parents ask about Lincoln AI Learning Coach, how it works, and how to sign up.

What is Lincoln AI Learning Coach?

Lincoln AI Learning Coach is an AI study tool designed to help K-12 students stay engaged, build understanding, and continue making progress when questions arise. Learning Coach asks questions that help students think critically rather than giving direct answers. Your child can interact with three AI coaches (James, Lily, or Linc) by talking or typing their questions. When your child uploads a worksheet to Homework Helper or asks about any school topic in Learn Anything, Learning Coach can help them through guided questioning and instructional support.

How much does it cost and is there a free trial?

Learning Coach costs $14.99 a month per child, or $149.99 a year ($12.50 a month). You can sign up for a 7-day free trial and cancel at any time.

Does it give students the answers?

No. Learning Coach asks guiding questions and works through the problem one step at a time. If a child pastes a problem into the Learning Coach conversation and asks for the answer, Learning Coach responds by turning it back into a question, the way a teacher or a parent helping with homework would. The goal is to encourage learning and build critical thinking skills. It is designed to stay in coaching mode, so students can’t switch to a mode that simply provides answers.

Who makes Learning Coach, and what curriculum is it trained on?

Lincoln Learning Solutions, a Pennsylvania nonprofit founded in 2005, makes Lincoln AI Learning Coach in partnership with Creatium. It is trained on Lincoln Empowered, the K-12 curriculum schools and districts license from us, and the technology underneath combines proprietary AI with leading third-party AI models.

Is it available 24/7?

Yes. Learning Coach is available 24/7. Once the sign-up process is complete, you and your child will have separate logins. When your child logs in, they will be taken directly to Learning Coach where they can ask questions any time of day.

What can parents see?

When parents log in, they will be taken to the parent dashboard where they manage both parent and student accounts. Additionally, they can see a list of topics their child has previously worked on, as well as strengths, areas for improvement, and suggested actions they can take to support their child. The dashboard also flags concerning conversations and shows the portion of the conversation that prompted the alert. Parents get an email for serious ones, such as self-harm or threats of violence. A parent account is linked to the child account, and the child can’t unlink it.

Can it work alongside a human tutor?

Yes. Learning Coach can be used alongside a human tutor for nightly homework and studying between sessions. It doesn’t replace a tutor, and a child who is behind still benefits from working with a person.

Does it help with English language arts and reading?

Yes, Learning Coach will help your child with English language arts and reading assignments. For example, Learning Coach will help your child brainstorm topics for an essay and walk them through the writing process, but it will not write an essay for them. For reading, Learning Coach can help your child learn letter sounds and how to spell words based on English language rules in addition to many other reading topics. It can also provide learning resources such as videos and readings. Here is an example of a student interaction with Learning Coach based on a reading question.

Student: Can you help me with letter sounds?

Learning Coach: I would be happy to help you with that. To get us started, which letter sound do you find most challenging, or would you like to begin with a specific vowel or consonant?

Student: C’s and K’s confuse me

Learning Coach: That is a common point of confusion because they often make the exact same sound. A good rule of thumb is that we often use the letter K before the letters E, I, or Y, like in the word kite. Can you think of any other words that start with a K sound?

Student: king

Learning Coach: Spot on. King is a great example of using K before the letter I. Since we use K before E, I, and Y, what letter do you think we usually use for the sound before A, O, or U?

How do I choose an AI helper for multiple subjects?

If you’re comparing tools, look for one that covers every subject at your child’s grade level and coaches rather than handing over answers. Learning Coach provides guided learning support for grades K-12 in math, English language arts, science, social studies, and electives. Your child can ask any school-related question, and it will offer support to help them think through the topic that is challenging them.

Is Learning Coach safe, and what happens to my child’s data?

Learning Coach keeps conversations on learning, redirects off-topic or inappropriate requests, and keeps its language age-appropriate. If a conversation raises self-harm or threats of violence, you get an email and an alert in the parent dashboard. Student data is never sold, and student conversations and uploaded content are not used to train foundation models or improve the Learning Coach model.
